OSHA has specific safety training requirements for many industries. Safety training must be provided to new employees, employees moving into new jobs, anytime a new process or new piece of equipment is added and for managers who are supervising workers. A key to success is to you ensure that employees who have not completed training for a specific type of equipment or process do NOT involve themselves with that equipment or process. Training courses vary from general, such as the expectation that employees will wear a hard hat and safety glasses whenever on the job site to more site-specific training courses for advanced personal protective equipment or unique hazards of a particular job.

Custom Safety Training Programs

We can help build each component of your safety training plan. We’ll outline the OSHA training requirements with your leadership and help you to develop an effective safety culture. We will work with you to develop a calendar for when regular or refresher training is needed to certify your workers. OSHA provides an extensive list of training requirements, and you might also find help from your Worker’s Compensation insurance providers. As your safety partner, we can help you draw resources from any and all of providers, so that you have a complete and current safety training.

Houston, TX Written Safety Program Development

Your overall written safety program is designed to help with occupational health and safety of your workers, managers and other people who are on your job site. Health and Safety are very broad topics and it’s easy to get lost in the details. We provide you a written program helping you to develop and implement an injury and illness prevention plan. Your program will include how to handle new workers and ongoing safety training, work practices that will reduce risk, any known hazards on a job site, how to report something that appears unsafe and what happens when someone is injured.

Injury and Illness Prevention Programs

There are many categories of a well-designed program, including but not limited to CPR & First Aid, PPE, Electrical Safety, Fall Protection and other occupational health and safety that comes from your overall operations. You are also expected to identify and provide all needed safety signage and equipment. We have developed numerous programs. We are also available to review your existing safety program. You don't want to discover that you’ve missed a key section during an accident investigation.

Houston, TX Jobsite Hazard Analysis

At De Leon Safety Solutions, we are experienced in analyzing your operations for potential hazards. This JSA is required by OSHA as hazard recognition, mitigation and abatement methods. As Loss Control experts, we’ll be looking at your operations with a different reference point than a general contractor, subcontractor, plant manager or employee. Our job is to identify all potential hazards and ensure you have proper procedures and safeguards to eliminate an injury or illness.

Proactively Identify Potential Risks & Hazards

We consider how workers interact with the jobsite environment, equipment as they move through the project lifecycle. We return to the project when major milestones are completed, so we can reassess your site for any new hazards. We provide additional recommendations for safety training, administrative, engineering controls and personal protective equipment.

A jobsite hazard analysis must be thorough, but this doesn’t mean that it has to disrupt the jobsite, but rather that it works to prevent the number one jobsite disruption- a worker being injured, falling ill or worse. Jobsite hazard analysis has also been known to increase productivity and increase quality thus reducing re-work. Jobsite hazard analysis traditionally increases workers moral as they feel safer in their place of employment.

Houston, TX Site Safety Assessment

The site safety assessment is designed to identify and record health and safety hazards that exist at a workplace, along with corrective and protective measures. A site safety assessment should be undertaken by those trained in risk reduction and hazard assessments. General public safety hazards must also be included in all safety assessments. You’ll be expected to identify all obvious hazards and articulate, in writing and in action, how you plan to reduce risk to workers through training, safe work plans, personal protective equipment and culture. Site safety assessments should be completed daily in the form of a PRE-Shift Inspection, along with periodic hazard assessments.

Preventing Work Related Hazards

You should have identified obvious hazards and protected workers from those hazards with detailed procedures, coupled with employee and manager training. From the proper use of personal protective equipment to a clear and concise written safety statement, you will deliver a clear mandate for workplace safety. With a sound plan, you won’t experience the disruption of a worker related injury or illness, and the imposing OSHA investigation it may prompt. We have worked with many employers to ensure that their workers go home safe while the project progresses.

Houston, TX Workplace Accident Incident Investigation

Completing a workplace accident investigation is not just required, but it’s good for business as well. The completion of a detailed investigation can often uncover existing unsafe conditions and/or hazards that can contribute to work-related injuries. An investigation can provide you with corrective actions that improve overall health and safety of your workplace and employees. We have the expertise to develop an effective investigation framework following a workplace injury. We can walk you through the process, ensuring the investigation demonstrates the steps you will take to avoid a similar work-related injury in the future. This is a key to the investigation, and it can help you avoid fines and other OSHA penalties.

Implementing Appropriate & Corrective Safety Actions

An accident investigation includes steps that define who will be included: supervisors and other employees, your Worker’s Compensation insurance provider, legal counsel and more. Additional steps to a complete accident investigation will include:
  • Securing the Accident Location – it’s imperative that the location of an accident and/or injury be secured. This ensures additional workers are not injured and also to maintain all available evidence for the investigation team.
  • Reporting the Accident to OHSA – law requires employers to notify the appropriate OSHA office within 8 hours of a serious injury or fatality.
  • Identifying and Interviewing Possible Witnesses – Anyone who was proximate to the injury is a possible witness. It’s best that interviews with witnesses be conducted by an experienced accident investigation specialist.
  • Gathering Evidence – All evidence within the accident location should be gathered, including photographs, sketches, equipment and more. This evidence should be secured as best as possible.
  • Generating a Report – Once the investigation has collected all information, a complete report must be generated, including possible remediation to reduce the possibility of future incidents.
  • Implementing Change – Any changes defined in the accident investigation should be incorporated into your regular safety program.
Our investigation stays focused on the injury, and we address any root causes. We do not expand beyond what needs to be investigated, additionally we build processes that will help reduce or eliminate future injuries. It’s very important to isolate the injury, define root causes and remediate those causes, including possible changes (lessons learned) to how your safety representative trains new and existing workers, the use of personal or site protective equipment and more.
